How to Choose an Air Purifier
Start with the room you use most, then compare airflow, filters, controls and ongoing filter care. This guide helps you narrow the choices without relying on the largest square-foot number on the box.
1. Measure your room
Multiply length by width to find floor area. For example, a 12-by-15-foot bedroom is 180 sq ft. Include connected spaces in an open floor plan, and allow more capacity for high ceilings.
2. Compare CADR and the cleaning interval
Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) describes filtered airflow. Compare values in the same units: CFM and m³/h are different. A maximum area advertised for one air change per hour is not the same as a smaller room cleaned several times per hour. Lower fan speeds usually filter less air.
3. Match the filter to your priority
- Dust, pollen and airborne pet dander: compare particle filtration and airflow.
- Odors: check for an appropriate carbon or other gas-removal filter. Filter type and the amount of carbon matter.

4. Plan for filter care
Check compatible replacement filters and follow the manual's cleaning schedule. Only wash parts specifically labeled washable. An air purifier supplements source control and ventilation; it cannot remove every indoor pollutant.
